Bianca Signez, LMSW
From a very young age, Bianca has been an agent of change. As a Brooklyn native, values such as community, social justice and mental health remain at Bianca’s core. At the age of 14, she would spend her Saturdays providing meals to individuals and families without housing with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Throughout her college career at the University of Bridgeport, Bianca interned at the most under-funded schools in Bridgeport, CT. She was devoted to preparing students to go on to college and supporting them emotionally. While studying in Connecticut, Bianca served as a mentor with the Village Initiative Project (VIP) at the Margaret E. Morton Government Center. The VIP project exposed underserved students to college life through weekly college prep and life skills workshops. Bianca dedicated her time to ensure Bridgeport scholars were college and career ready.
As a graduate of Fordham University, Bianca began her career working at a foster care agency in Brooklyn as a case manager. During her time as a case manager, Bianca identified the gap between geographic location and access to quality resources. Bianca also observed the overwhelming number of youth that became involved in gun violence and criminal activity. Bianca realized that she wanted to make a positive impact in her own community, as well as, provide resources and assistance.
Currently, a NYS Licensed Master’s Social Worker, Bianca holds a vast level of expertise and understanding of the New York State social service systems. Beyond the Block will utilize a systems theory approach that considers all the factors that might impact each participant. In addition to creating a safe and affirming space for inner city youth, she also strives to address academic needs/goals, as well as their social and emotional needs.
